Amazon Sucks

Amazon is punishing people who order items and choose free shipping. I've been seeing the same behavior for several orders now and so I'm convinced that it's not a fluke. I'm convinced that they are intentionally delaying shipments on orders where I have selected free shipping. In every single case, all items are reported to be in stock, and sold/shipped by Amazon. So there is no way for them to blame any "partner". In the most recent case, I ordered several books, that were all in stock, and all available for shipment within 24 hours (so their website indicated). I placed my order on January 8. And now, I've learned that they plan to ship (not deliver - but merely to ship) my order on February 26. And still, today, every single item is in stock. Please people, try hard to not use Amazon. They're clearly employing an untold number of manipulative schemes that do NOT help the customer.

It's no wonder that Yahoo Finance reports that Amazon's quarterly earnings growth (yoy) is -36%.

You know, my dad has said the same thing about his book orders. It appears to be only with books though, as I haven't had any such difficulty with my other orders.

I just ordered a pot on Amazon. They told me the earliest it could possibly get here was tomorrow or as late as early Feb... it got here today... looks like they have no trouble with cookware.

I googled this problem and found your website. I wanted to add that I have had the most frustrating experience with Amazon and their shipping. I ordered a child's car seat over two months ago. I originally selected free shipping but was upgraded to one-day shipping after frustrating delays. The website has the item "in stock" almost everyday since I have ordered it. Today (11/10/07), I received yet another email asking me to approve new ship date. The only reason why I have stuck with the order is because it is the cheapest price I can find anywhere anytime. What is the deal with their shipping and availability?

What a nightmare I am having--ordered a nice toshiba 42" LCD HD TV. Took two weeks via a really poor shipper--Eagle. The drunk delivery person dropped the TV off the truck and tried to deliver anyway. He claimed it was not damaged, I said no thanks. Short story is the shipper tried to say it was delivered and we are still in dispute with the credit card company. Amazon is acting hands off, even though it is their sale and not some named third party. My advice is to avoid Amazon for this type of purchase--I should have known better, but I had good luck with smaller purchases.

I went to the Amazon site from a link on DealMac.com
The item I wanted was the Sanyo Xati HD 7000 (brown) camcorder/camera.
It was priced at $299.99... free shipping.
I thought it was a good buy (a Great Buy, actually) so I clicked to "buy it now" and the price was listed at $329.99 in the cart. What!? That's $30.00 more than they advertised. I clicked on the browser back button... and the price was then $379.99!! I tried to refresh the page, but what the heck, it was still listed at $379.99.

What kind of price-gouging, product switching, price-fixing thing is going on here?
Isn't against the law to advertise a product at one price, then sell it at a higher price? Isn't that a criminal offense? And this is over the internet... probably across several state lines!

This is my first time trying to buy something from Amazon.com and now I see what I've been reading and hearing here and there... that Amazon is okay.. but kinda shifty in it's own way. I now see why. I will be sure to relate my Amazon experience to any and all.

I complained to a friend and he says he doesn't order on Amazon anymore because of the constant shipping delays, and now it looks like some kind of thrift store/flea market, what with all the ads and "buy used" stuff... at the same price as the "new" stuff and the constant ads. In fact the page that I originally went to (the one with the price at 299.99) said that people who bought the Sanyo HD700 in brown at $299.99 also bought a ...yep, Sanyo HD700 in silver... at $379.99! Yeah. Right. I shoulda figured out right then that Amazon is run by idiots thinking that their customers are also idiots.

I called their help line and got nowhere and sent an email, and got an email back which basically said that they could do nothing. Man, are they so right. They can't do anything because they don't know anything.

And now they're in collusion with scalpers. They will promise you something. Then at the last minute tell you they don't have it after all. Forcing you to go to a scalper. The scalper using their "warehousing services". And the item ships direct from amazon, and the scalper & amazon both make more money off you than amazon ever could have by selling you the one item direct.

I realized the same problem every time I have ordered books through amazon. I always chose the free shipping and they always took about a month to arrive.

I have had it with Amazon. We tried to sell on Amazon and it has been a disaster. You can read the rest of that story on my blog.

I ordered a book from Amazon yesterday. This book was in stock but said they would not be able to ship it out until Jan 28. So I tried to cancel my order but Amazon claimed they could not cancel my order.

Anonymous said...

They almost certainly delay them in some way or another. But it's not clear how they decide what to delay and what not to delay or why. I mean, I've ordered with free shipping before and gotten the package 2 days later, and I've ordered with free shipping and had it take 2 - 3 weeks. Regardless, as they say, you get what you pay for.

Amazon are awful especially for International orders. I ordered a book that was to be shipped from the US to Europe and paid extra for fast shipping. I was told at the time of ordering that it would arrive between 9-15 days. Then I get a confirmation email after I paid saying that it actually wouldn't be shipped for a further MONTH and then it would take a further 25 days to arrive! (a total wait of almost two months). I tried to cancel it straight away under "my account", but even though it's not being shipped out for a month I cannot cancel, since it is being "processed". Therefore the whole cancel feature seems utter crap and non existent. But maybe this shoddy service is just for international orders?

Customer service is a joke - 3 emails, 2 weeks, and still no reply. The number for international buyers doesn't work.

If you have any other choice avoid Amazon, even if it means paying a bit extra because going with them will cost more in time and money anyway!

Amazon Sucks!

I ordered about $500.00 in books from them in December. When I got to reading one of the books, it was missing the sticker that contains an internet code. I called Amazon, and they said that since it had been more than 30 days, tough shit for me. I normally buy about $2000.00 in books each year from Amazon.

I will never buy another book from them again!

I had the same problem here. I order two a studio mixer and a USB Music Port. Anyways I got the USB Music Port within the same week of ordering but, they toke me for the runaround on the studio mixer. It was going on two months with it on the site saying in order but the email telling theres none with them. So I just canceled the order and said I'll stick with Ebay!!! That will be my first and last time ordering from Amazon.

I too have had it with Amazon. Over the years I have ordered a lot of merchandise from them. Used to when you chose the free shipping, you order would still arrive within 5 days even if it said 8-10. I placed and order on April 28, 2008 for two items and chose free shipping. Now they are saying as of May 2nd that only today was the carrier notified to pickup the items for shipping (5 full days after the order was placed). Well, we all know that they will not pick up on weekends. So now they are projecting a delivery date of May 20th. Correct me if I'm wrong but that is way beyond their policy. And everything was in stock when the order was placed. Now I am mad....one of the items was a coffee pot to replace mine which quit working. I will never place another order with Amazon. I have used their free shipping many times and never had to wait this long.

Bought call of duty 4 from them (a video game). Great deal. $34.99 when other places are $59.99.

Well they shipped it to me. I checked the address, they forgot to put my apartment number. Thats cool, no not really. Contacted usps, they cant do anything... called their customer service. He said "we can re-ship it" i told him... it was a special deal, it's back up to $59.99 on your web site. He assured me, no problem, call back once we recieve it.

Okay. I call back today after they recieve it. Here's the line I get "Just re-order it". I say to them... actually, this is the whole deal, i talked to the previous guy, he said you would re-send it to me. Nope. Talking to their customer service is fun. Apparently I am a liar.

I can see saying "sorry we can't do it", but blame me for their mistake? I'm not just an unsatisfied customer due to their problems, I am of the opinion "FUCK amazon".

Never going to buy anything from them again, and will encourage everyone i meet not to either.

Yes, Amazon purposefully delays "free" shipments to force repeat buyers to upgrade and pay for shipping in future orders.

I've literally waited months for books that claim to be in stock and available.

Simply the worst customer service available, with non-English speaking people editing form emails incoherently.

I've switched to bn.com (Barnes & Noble) for most of my book orders and am much happier now. (There are several other useful book buying sites that Google can lead you to.)

Yes, I've placed two orders with Amazon recently (camping equipment and books, respectively). In both cases, I chose the free super saver shipping, and in both cases Amazon sat on the order for exactly a week before sending them out. Based on that I would say that it's definitely a customer-unfriendly policy to play games and deliberately delay the shipment in order to coax people into paying for expedited shipping. I'll be shopping elsewhere next time.

Amazon use to have decent shipping and they use to show a (ships within 24 hours) on in stock items. They no longer show it any more because even if the item is in stock they delay shipping it to frustrate you into buying Prime. Amazon is run by a bunch of douchebags. It's gone down hill ever since they have started to pimp out Amazon Primer every chance they get.

Anonymous said...

I've just placed 10 orders in as many days, for all sorts of products, and they are all taking about 5 days to ship. The ones that have not yet shipped give an "estimated ship date" about five days out from the order date. Orders placed with 3rd party sellers shipped next day. This is done on purpose, Amazon is screwing its customers over to try and force them to buy "Prime", the overpriced sub-prime con.

The solution. I use bigwords (dot) com and half-dot-com. I get it 10x faster and none of this "it will ship on the 18th of this month but will arrive on the 26th of next month" bullshit.

Amazon really does suck. No one who lives in Alaska should do ANY business with them at all. Everytime I try to order it is always something about 'not shipping to Alaska'. Duh, we are part of the United States of

Fool me once, shame on you said...

This is insane. I was under the impression that Amazon was a reliable source for books. Now I wouldn't order electronics from them however books were their turf. Apparently Not.
On Septermber 26th I ordered a single book that was in stock and ready for shipment within 24 hours. It shipped 2 days later on the 28th, this i can tolerate.

I understood they were being shifty with their free shipment service so I went for International Expidited service (at an additional cost) and it was supposed to arrive within three weeks (which i felt was stretching the limits).
Anyway the estimated date of arrival was yesterday and as expected, no arrival.

Upon mailing them i received a response saying they will not send an additonal package just yet as both might arrive and then I will need to handle returning one.

I was then asked to wait "several more weeks"(!!!!) and if it does not arrive by november 5th (estimated arrival was october 21st) I should contact again. And then what? wait another month for the book not to arrive?

Apparently Amazon does not require returning customers any longer and they'd rather screw over every customer and get their money once.

One thing's for sure, I'm never going to order Amazon again. The mere fact that they do not offer detailed tracking (of package location) for international shipments and then demand a "several week" grace period for shipments that were paid to arrive within two weeks.

If you've got Amazon stocks, this would be the time to get rid of them, their future looks far from bright.

I have a charge from amazon.com, I don't know what is for. But I can't talk to a billing department. They are investigating by e-mail!!!!!!!!!!! They can see that I didn't order anything with that price. But He said it will take 1-2 weeks to get back with me.
I sent complaint to customer service but it was a joke. I hate them now. I used to buy many books from them but now I will never ever do that.

I have to agree 100% that Amazon sucks. I learned a valuable lesson. Bought a Xmas item for daughter "free shipping". Actually what they do is add the shipping in the price and I fell for it. I found the same item at Target a week later and funniest thing, it was the same price less the shipping. When I returned it, they tried to make me pay double shipping to return it. I had to fight with them. You cannot call anyone, you cannot respond to their email. I also STUPIDLY (yes, I agree) clicked on something just to see their shipping policies and then "x" out of it. Next thing I know I have another shipment coming and you "cannot change or cancel order". What a nightmare. I will NEVER NEVER NEVER buy anything from them again. Way too many legitimate e-retailers out there who treat you honestly to ever even have to consdier going to Amazon.com again. But I'm probably preaching to the choir here.

I tried to order a cell phone with a contract extension twice on Amazon because they had the best deal for the phone I want. For some reason, they frozed my account the first time and when I call to try to fix it but they told me they need to contact my bank to get authorization for the purchase. What I did not understand was able to charge my card since the price of the phone is a penny and I had a couple of thousand dollars in my account. I tried to give them the info they need when I called but they told me that they will have someone contact me within the next 24 hours to take care of this. When I didn't hear from anyone, I sent them an email and they next day I received an email stating that they cancelled my account. I set up a new account and tried to order it again but I seem to be having the same problem. Maybe it would be worth paying the $150 for it for this much hassle. At least then I would have had my new phone the next day.

I have recently ordered two video games and a CD of amazon (I do not live within the UK so they need to ship this abroad) and was happy to see that it was dispatched within 10 hours of the time I purcahsed the items. I have chosen the cheaper shipping because the more expensive shipping which supposedly takes about a day or two to get to people is incredibly overpriced! It is expected to be at my house around 13th May 2009. I myself have never had any problems using amazon. However I would never use a third party delivery service...I would only ever buy things from the actual Amazon.com... not anything else! if the item I want to buy is not available to be sold by amazon I wouldnt bother!

Well they've done it to me yet another time. It's often enough that I decided to mention it this time. I order 2 books that are "in stock" and choose free shipping, only to discover later in an email that they've chosen to not ship them for more than 3 weeks after I ordered them. I've been telling all the people I know about this practice, with the intent to reduce Amazon's business (although I'm realistic enough to know that it's probably futile).

It is clear (obvious) that they are intentionally punishing anybody who chooses free shipping. I believe that this is because they are overcharging for shipping and that is a significant revenue stream for them.

Once again, Amazon disappoints me. They've changed the packaging used to ship audiobooks. It appears that they want to cut costs because the packaging is merely a shrink wrapped uber-thin cardboard cover. The result is natural: audiobook totally crushed. Now I am forced to go through the annoyance and cost of returning it. (Lest you think returns are free: I must drive to a post office as this exceeds the mass limit on items mailed from the home or from a mailbox. Then I could speak of the cost of my time - a factor in why many of us shop at Amazon in the first place.)

To Amazon Customer Service After They Sent Me Two Mismatched Right Shoes

Sending mismatched shoes, when I've paid almost 100 dollars for them, and then not finding a way to fill my order, is totally unacceptable. It makes your company look, frankly, retarded.

There are only two items in a shoe-box: a right and left shoe. The fact that nobody opened the box and gave a quick glance at these two items before shipping, is inexcusable.

And with your vast network of suppliers and resources, the fact that you can't figure out a way to restock and re-deliver the product you promised me, makes me reluctant to ever put my faith in Amazon again.

And another thing: You might think about being especially sensitive about the delivery of white shoes. They are likely to be a wedding item, and hence untimely or incorrect fulfillment of an order can seriously distress someone.

You have cordial customer service reps, but awful quality control, and lame-duck follow-through.

I'm gravely disappointed. Despite the refund, I don't feel we are square.

Amazon is the worst marketplace online. As a seller, I was able to sell certain software items on Amazon and made decent income. However, Amazon closed my listing and won't let me relist them and gave me no warning or explanation for it. I tried applying for approval several times since it became restricted to pre-approved sellers and they rejected me many times. The don't want me to make money. They're the ones making money. Please stay away from Amazon! Shop online like at Walmart, Bestbuy and some small business sites.

Well I must be lucky, I have never had a problem with them as a buyer, most of the times, items have arrived sooner than I expected with the free shipping method.

My feeling is, if you choose the free delivery option, then you should not expect the product to arrive within the next few days.
Most of the time the money you save buying from Amazon, then it is woth paying the small charge for standard delivery, and if you really need the product urgently, then you should do that.

Not disregardnig the fact, that other people have had problems with them, must suck, one day it could happen to me.

I will agree with sellers accounts being cancelled though, especially the ones that make some good money.

So they are not all good, end of the day, they are just another corporate buisiness. They are all about one thing, and one thing only.

They have everything setup illegaly and contrary to the way business is done. They expect you to ship items to buyers at your own expense. They call their system a "catch all", the problem is it uses shipping rates from 2001. Then the customers are losers who want to blame you for buying the wrong item. Amazon is a ripp off, you will lose the item, you will lose your money and some crap for brains customer will harass you about things that have nothing to do with you. Such a customer buying item A by accident when they actually wanted item B. The CEO of this company is a piece of shit. I read about him , he's a cold calculated con man. There are so many buyers who take advantage of the Amazon Guarantee claim, want the item for free and makes up some ridiculous excuse and gets to keep the item and Amazon takes the money from us and the buyer never returns the item. So now you have no money nor the item. Also Amazon keeps on pushing and pushing to do FBA otherwise they keep on restricting you so Amazon can make all the money without any investment while the seller gets nothing. While they bring the price of the item down so much that after there percent and the Free Shipping the seller has actually lost money. They even have the gal to come to sellers own website, browse around and then threaten the seller that if they do not make changes they will restrict them on Amazon. Control freak.... so many local small businesses closing down because of Amazon. We have customers who walks in to our store and we spend an hour explaining stuff, then they walk out and go to Amazon so they do not have to pay the sales tax. When they have problems with it or need to figure out how to use it they come back again to get another demo or exchange it becuase apparently we carry it and should provide support for a product we carry (even though they bought from Amazon).

I used to buy from Amazon all the time, but slowly have been seeing more and more problems with free shipping, shipping dates, and "out of stock" items. I finally gave up and have been shopping at other sites. Unfortunately there's only one, Dealomite.com, that can beat the Amazon price. No free shipping, but at least they deliver when they say they will!

Check out http://kathrynsheehan.com/ as it does ring true, "what goes around comes around" when it comes to Amazon's head legal counsel.

OK. I have never had a problem with Amazon personally until now but this is just stupid. Like everyone else in the past when I have ordered 1 thing and paid shipping I have always gotten within two to three days no matter what the delivering estimate is. I have always credited this to the fact that I live about 35 to 40 miles from a distribution center. I bought two items and selected the super saver shipping because my thought was, why not. It was in stock and being sold by Amazon. It took three days to show shipped on their webpage and then ended up 120 miles north of the distribution center. Approximately 160 miles from me. I gave the benefit of the doubt thinking maybe it was at a different center, however now, approximately one week since I ordered the items they are continueing north now about 400 miles from my residence. Well so much for my son enjoying his gifts on our trip this year. Maybe we'll have them by this time next year.

DO NOT BUY FROM AMAZON IF YOU ARE IN ANY FORM OF "HURRY". FREE SHIPPING SUCKS! From what I read, expedited shipping can suck too. It is a crap shoot ordering from Amazon. Best to check locally before buying and if the item is within $5-10 or so in price, BUY IT LOCALLY. My rule for the future!

DO NOT BUY FROM AMAZON! Their shipping is a joke, and the sellers are rude, especially those big mega sellers. A seller that owns a CGR company is a real jerk. AVOID BUYING FROM AMAZON!

So I've been buying a lot of videogames on Amazon lately, as they're usually the cheapest around. Everything's been going pretty smoothly until now. I ordered a game in january (it's february 18th) that was in stock when I ordered it. Then when they shipped, for some reason it was out of stock.

So I had to wait around for weeks for them to finally ship the package, on february 13th, with an estimated earliest delivery date of february 28th. I have been checking my mail, and tracking number every day since then. As of yesterday, the package is supposedly 3 hours away from my house... but will take 10 days to get here? That didnt seem right.

Out of curiosity I copied the tracking number and checked it against usps.com's tracking system. Amazon.com has 5 days of tracking information from cites all around me... but usps.com says that they just received electronic shipping information on the package a few hours ago. To clarify, that means according to usps they haven't even SHIPPED it yet.

So either something is wrong with usps.com, or Amazon.com is feeding me a bunch of bullshit tracking info.

Why is this order such a pain in the ass compared to all of my others? Well as it turns out, the rest were from independent sellers... this order is "fulfilled by amazon.com"

I was a proponent of Amazon happily using their EC2 services, ordering MP3's, Video's to play on my Tivo and Ebooks to be read on my tablet and phone using the Kindle app. My mistake was using them too much. At some point Amazon flips a bit on your account and customer service can't do a thing for you, they don't care about you and are probably hoping that you will just go away. I took a stand and closed my account, moving my EC2 stuff to someone else, and loosing all my digital content. I'm just happy to be away from them and I'm glad to see that considering them 'Evil' is not just my opinion. The people that work their may not be Evil but the software that drives their website most certainly is pure unadulterated Evil.

My recommendations: Use Barnes and Nobles (nook.com) ebook reader and buy your video's and DRM free MP3's from Google Play. Both work well and you don't have to suffer through the Evil Amazon Experience.

In the past I found Amazon prices to be the cheapest and had good luck with them. With that said, they really pissed me off recently. I received a Kindle Book Reader as a gift for Christmas. It was a large one, not the small compact one that I had wanted. It cost over $200. It was purchased from Amazon in October. Early Christmas shopping I guess. When I tried to return it and exchange it for the one I wanted, they told me that too much time had passed and that they would sell me the other one for $120 dollars. Basically they were going to give me $80 for a $200 plus item. So I told them no thanks and that I would not buy anything from them until I spent 200 plus dollars with their competitors. Greed has its consequences.

Sure does lol!
I was an Amazon shopper sometime back. There's too much trash on there however now days and scams among fraud. Its breeding grounds for this type of stuff. After getting the short end of the stick on both buyer and sellers side I decided enough was enough. I used the same practices and policies to my advantage and scored a descent amount back (5k+). I just pressed back with the same force amazon used on me. If anyone's interested in knowing more you can reach me at tr00p.666.azn (at) g-mail

They claim to have delivered a package. I never received it. They give you NO obvious option in the shitty GUI to report this. They Arrogantly assume that if the delivery truck claims to have delivered it, then it must be delivered. I lost count of the number of packages I have received at my house that were NOT addressed to me. Their assumption is a fine illustration of their ignorance.

IT's gotten worse since prime. You now have to pay to have things shipped fast. My last few orders have sat waiting, or even got extended after they reached the ship date. All showing in stock. Compare that to when I order from best buy with free shipping...the last two orders to them - the Product was on my Door THE NEXT DAY. I will now start to look to order elsewhere, and come to Amazon only after I cannot obtain it elsewhere. Too big - and focused on trying to increase profit...upstarts will take them down...with better service.

Hello Legitimate Amazon Victims : Please consider The Federal Trade Commission BUREAU OF COMSUMER PROTECTION "AND" USA.GOV [State Consumer Protection Offices ( select your state to get the exact address} . Complaints to these offices are not as easy a "CLICK" after en electronic complaint. HOWEVER, AMAZOM cannot just ignore an official inquiry from any of the FEDERAL & STATE OFFICES. The effect is not immediate, but in a short period of time, AMAZON will need to hire people to fill out forms AND in turn this WILL HAVE A DEFINITE EFFECT ON "AMAZON'S" PROFIT & LOSS STATEMENTS ! ATENTION will be required by LAW. Use your tax dollars to fight the AMAZON MONSTER !

Did you know that if an Amazon vendor blunders and sends you the wrong item, YOU are solely responsible for return shipping costs? Yep. And Amazon doesn't care, won't let you post a feedback comment about the issue, etc. Shop somewhere else.

So ordered a phone case from amazon. They received my money, and didn't deliver the phone case. So I called and complained and nothing. Emailed, no response, called yelling and screaming and got someone's attention. Between the lies and run around was offered a chance to get screwed by amazon again. Amazon won't allow the review of the not received product because it was a single star. How dishonest is that. Buy your stuff elsewhere don't do business with these thieves
